Mea Culpa
A feature film
A film noir/psycho thriller that dives into the darkest side of the female psychology, where empathy, reality and rationality no longer exist - a mental place where unpleasant and cruel actions take over. The main character Ida has been diagnosed with "Münchenhausen by Proxy," a psychological illness, and on top of that she has also become addicted to grief. Ida struggles with her strong moral conflict and the awareness of the consequence of her illness, but she can’t help herself. As a self-punishment, she recreates the death scene of her own son again and again to meet her needs for grief and mourning, by killing other women’s children. She manages to get away with her crimes until the day where she meets Marje, who she believes is the perfect victim. However Marje is not the kind of person who disappears into the paralyzing grip of mourning when her son is murdered; she is determined to find the truth about her son’s death, driven by anger and the need for revenge. Slowly the psychological balance between the two women changes; Marje becomes the assailant and Ida the victim.
